17th Annual Graduate Research Symposium

The Graduate Student Senate together with the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and the Graduate Professional Council are pleased to announce the

17th Annual Graduate Research Symposium and workshop series

"Communicating Aross Academic Borders"

The symposium will take place Saturday February 18th. 

 

The symposium and workshop series will help you hone your ability to communicate your research project to the broader academic community: Your peers and friends in other departments, the undergraduates you teach, and members of search committees for jobs and fellowships in--and outside--of academia.

Workshop 1 – October 27 – 4 to 5:30 pm

Adapting a Discipline-Specific Abstract for a Broad, Academic Audience

This hands-on workshop will offer writing tips and advice to help you revise your research abstract for a broader audience. Bring a paper copy of your abstract and get feedback from The Writing Center's tutors and your peers.

Workshop 2 – November 16 – 4 to 5:30 pm

Preparing and Delivering a Successful Poster Presentation

This hands-on workshop will offer speaking tips and advice for preparing and delivering a poster presentation of your research. In small groups, you'll practice your brief talk and get feedback from The Speaking Studio's tutors and your peers.


Workshop 3 – December 1 – 4 to 5:30 pm

Creating a Compelling Research Poster

In this workshop students will be introduced to poster-making methods and resources and brainstorm in small groups how to use visual materials to help a broader audience understand their project.

Register by sending your name and department to gradcenter@wustl.edu.  Space is limited and priority will be given to students participating in the Graduate Research Symposium.  Successful registration will be confirmed by email. See calendar on right for registration deadlines.
